Icy Pavement Pedestrian Accident Lawsuits

Many pedestrians are injured every year after a simple slip on ice. Serious injuries such as broken bones, extensive head injuries or even death can occur. These types of injuries can affect the pedestrian for quite a time to come. Often times people few these slips on the ice as an awful accident that happened to someone. Most of us have had our own slip and fall on the ice when conditions were bad. We all need to pay attention to our surroundings when inclement weather hits. Roads and walkways are the iciest when there has been a previous snow fall that has been compacted. Compacted snow can cause icy conditions as the snow can harden into either a thick layer of ice or, all of our favorite, black ice.

There are many situations in which a person’s slip and fall on the ice could have been avoided if another person, the company on the block or the larger organization in charge of the land had taken proper steps to ensure that icy conditions are at a minimal. When a pavement is icy due to the negligence of a business or organization and a pedestrian is harmed a pedestrian compensation claim may be filed. Many of these claims involve the pavement not being treated or is only partially treated to take care of the icy condition that has occurred. It is the business or organizations duty to ensure that a pedestrian is safe while walking on the property.

Personal injury claims are typically filed when the business or organization has not held up there duty to provide for a safe pavement. But there are some situations that may cause an unsafe environment for a pedestrian such as a vehicle owner making the safe pavement unsafe by water usage or other means while trying to clear snow and ice from a vehicle. However, most of the slips and falls on icy pavement are just that slips and falls on icy pavements because the pavement was not safe for the pedestrian.
