Advice for Limiting Risk on a Motorcycle
Everyone loves the image of driving free as a bird down the road on a shiny new motorcycle. Something about that just screams the “American Dream”. But that dream can quickly turn into a nightmare if you don't know the right safety tips on keeping your ride and yourself safe from a serious motorcycle accident. Here is a few that everyone should follow to make sure they are riding for years to come.
1. Take a Safety Course
Taking a safety course will not only teach you some tips and tricks of the open road but will also serve as a reality check. Any type of transportation is dangerous and the more you respect it, the better. With more knowledge about your ride, you could also be showing off the new tricks you learned to your buddies-while staying safe!
2. Safety First!
Lots of people don't wear helmets and other safety equipment because they see it as harnessing the freedom they are trying to get from their new set of wheels. While, if you are in a wreck you can always get injured. But, studies show that wearing a helmet decreases fatal accidents tremendously.
3. Defensive Driving
Be aware of your surroundings. Defensive driving is essential to motorcyclists because of the sheer size of other vehicles. If you are more aware of other drivers, they can be more aware of you.
4. Check Yourself
Riding this machine is exhilarating and can give you a rush. But, don't let it take over. Speed limits are there for a reason; don't let your adrenaline take control. You control the freedom, not the other way around.
Biking is something to be enjoyed for life. But, don't take it for granted. You'll much rather love the lifestyle from the bike than as a paraplegic in a wheelchair. So do others as well as yourself a favor on the road and respect her.
