The Butter Toffee Peanuts and Yogurt Covered Peanuts have been recalled by their manufacturers, Nutty Guys. This recall occurred after some insects were found amongst some packages of these two specific items. Approximately 2000lb of these recalled peanuts have already been sold. This is regarded as a Class III recall where the recalled products were unlikely to create any health hazards if consumed. This recall is not to be associated with the recent recall issued on peanut related products that were infected with the Salmonella virus.
How to Distinguish the Recalled Items
The recalled products would bear a sell-by date on or before March 15 2010 and were packed in transparent plastic bags and weigh one pound each. These products would have been sold at several online stores, the Nutty Guys website and at several stores across the nation.
The recalled products and their UPC numbers are
- Butter Toffee Peanuts, UPC 8 31852 00261 0
- Yogurt Peanuts, UPC 8 31852 00279 5
What was the problem with the peanut items that prompted this recall? These items were recalled as some of them might have been packed with larvae and insects that were alive. Insects do commonly exist amongst peanut products and generally do not pose a serious health hazard.
What is your next course of action should you have these recalled peanut items? If you do possess the peanut products by Nutty Guys that are involved in this recall, please do not consume them. Please get in touch with Nutty Guys to obtain instructions on how to get a refund on these products and dispose these recalled products. Of course, if you have been hurt and would like to claim damages, please look in to finding an attorney.
Insects in Food Items
It is not unusual to find live insects in dry food items such as grains and nuts. This often happens if these dried foods have been stored over a long time at home. Whilst most of these insects do not lead to any significant health issues, some of these bugs, like the carpet beetle, do lead to allergies and irritation.
